Runners

If running has been a regular activity for you for some while, running ‘correctly’ will sound like an obvious recommendation for the prevention of injury or long-term problems.

However, at Kinetic Podiatry Clinic we have found that many regular joggers and long distance runners (for example, those who undertake marathons) in addition to those entirely new to the sport, find themselves unexpectedly facing what can otherwise be avoidable ‘overuse’ and other injuries.

Planter Fasciitis, Runners Knee, ITB Friction Syndrome, Shin Splints, Achilles Tendonitis and general pain to the feet, knees, back and heels are some common ‘overuse’ problems.

Of course, it is always preferable to help avoid injury (and the dreaded ‘recovery’ period) in the first place and one of the best ways to do this is to perfect your running posture.

At Kinetic Podiatry Clinic we recommend a Gait Analysis to all runners through which we pay particular attention to your foot strike, body alignment and personal movement pattern in order to identify and correct imbalances and weaknesses.

From your Gait Analysis we are able to provide crucial information about your running style and make recommendations (if appropriate) for beneficial changes and potential treatment required to help you avoid injury and maximise your full lower limb range and stability for increased running potential.

A final note for runners! It is a common and totally unfounded myth that if you suffer injury you will never run again. Corrective podiatric treatment that re-positions the lower limbs is often all that is needed to get you back up and running.
